For the first time ever, Zo’s Winter Groove kicked-off over the weekend with a family health and wellness day, a comedy show, and the three-day event wrapped up Monday with his famous hall of fame golf tournament at Turnberry Isle.
The star-studded fundraiser draws-in locals, as well as people from out of town.
“Our focus is to continue to build relationships with individuals here in the community to help us help the folks here in our community,” Mourning said Monday.
The money raised funds education and health initiative programs for children and families across South Florida.
“Our kids are the most important and this event to support our kids any time we have the opportunity to give back to make a difference,” Billy Allen, a tournament participant said. “We stand on the shoulder of the Giants and I’m just proud to be here.”
Mourning, a basketball hall of famer, uses his star power to make a difference.
“We’re educating and creating awareness,” Mourning said. The fundraising is aimed at supporting “children and families in very low socioeconomic areas that have the ability but just don’t have the resources.”
Zo’s Winter Groove, the first of its kind, was set up in the season which is centered on giving.
“We want to grow our efforts even more so we can help more kids,” Mourning said.
In total, Zo’s Winter Groove raised $1.2 million and will all stay here in South Florida.
