Movie Review: The Wedding Ringer
Kevin Hart has done it again. After the success of Think Like a Man, Think Like a Man, Too and Ride Along, comedian Kevin Hart and film producer Will Packer are back again with another hilarious comedy, that will have you laughing in tears from its opening to closing scenes.
In The Wedding Ringer, written and directed by Jeremy Garelick, Josh Gad plays Doug Harris, a socially awkward groom-to-be, who can’t find a single groomsmen to be in his wedding, and hires Jimmy Callahan (Hart) to provide best man services. That’s where the fun begins.
Surprisingly, Gad and Hart have a priceless on scene chemistry that will have viewers laughing long after they leave theaters. Think Will Smith and Kevin James in the 2005 hit romantic comedy Hitch.
Of course, Hart steals every scene that he’s in, with his slick-talking, comedic gestures and larger than life persona, but Gad may be the film’s breakout star, similar to Seth Rogen in Knocked Up or Johan Hill in Superbad.
The rest of the cast features The Big Bang Theory‘s Kaley Cuoco as the bride-to-be, and an outrageous gang of groomsmen like comedians Affion Crockett and Corey Holcomb, who make for a random cast of characters that are good for a few laughs here and there.
The Wedding Ringer plot isn’t anything groundbreaking. Take a wedding, surround it with raunchy jokes, psychical humor, a few hot chicks, a couple unexpected moments and you’ve seen this movie before. It’s The Hangover meets Bridesmaids starring Kevin Hart in his crossover role. But in the end it works.
If you’re looking for a good laugh this Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, The Wedding Ringer is worth the price of admission.
