Ja’Shawn Scroggins delivered a standout performance, throwing four touchdown passes and adding a rushing score to lead Howard in a dominant 38-0 shutout over Delaware State on Saturday.
Scroggins set the tone early, connecting on three touchdown passes in the first half as the Bison (4-5, 1-1 MEAC) surged to a 24-0 lead.
Finishing the game 24-of-41 for 304 yards, Scroggins found receiver Kasey Hawthorne twice in the end zone. Hawthorne had an impressive outing, catching nine passes for 105 yards. Breylin Smith and Montrell Walker also recorded touchdown receptions.
Adding to his air attack, Scroggins rushed for 60 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown run that extended Howard’s lead to 31-0 by the end of the third quarter.
Delaware State’s offense struggled against Howard’s defense. Hornets quarterback C.J. Henry managed only 44 yards on 6-of-20 passing and threw two interceptions, as Delaware State (1-8, 0-2) recorded its seventh consecutive loss.
Howard outmatched Delaware State in nearly every area, holding a 31-6 advantage in first downs and amassing 560 yards of total offense compared to the Hornets’ 116.
This shutout marks Howard’s first since a 31-0 win over Morehouse College in 2022.
