2010 AMA’s Red White & BOOM

Last night, men, women, boys and girls gathered in front of television screens across America and prepared to enjoy the 2010 American Music Awards.

This year’s show promised to be one of the biggest yet, full with glittery, high-powered productions and a large amount of entertaining savoire-faire. Would the show meet the hype? Equipped with a fully charged MacBook Pro, that would allow me to join in worldwide Twitter commentary, and a few good friends, I welcomed the show and the premiere performance of the evening from everyone’s popstar addiction, Rihanna.

After nine minutes of thumping movement and island inspired grooving, topped of with her new fiery red crown, we were satisfied and pulled into the show.

The next few hours included accolades being given to the performers at the top of the game and a bevy of good, bad and uncomfortable performances.

We saw a formerly timid Taylor Swift, emerge as a young vixen, a darling 10-year old starlet, Willow Smith, take the “best dressed” award and an unofficial battle for the crown ensue between Neyo and Usher.

Other highlights of the night included a “preggers” Pink bringing careless fun into the show and a newly separated Christina Aguilera lure us into entering a world of “Burlesque.”

One thing’s for certain, American music is alive. How well it is depends on your personal preference. All in all, it was a night to celebrate the music that moves and the people that shake. For a play by play recap, check-out my Twitter timeline at @satchelj, and follow me too!

Cheers to the night and God bless America!
