Ben Franklin & The TSA

When Ben Franklin said “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety” I wonder what he would think of this modern day America and the liberties we have sacrificed over the last decade? Ahh who cares Jersey Shore is on. I don’t understand all this protesting and complaining about intrusive searches. America and Americans have demanded more stringent security since September 12, 2011. Now that they’ve got it they don’t seem to want it. I imagine most people assumed the heightened security measures would apply to “the other guy” but they don’t, they apply to everyone. The intrusive pat down seems to be the latest hot button for everyone. This baffles me, for a nation of people glued to their television watching shows like 24, prison break, OZ, or THE 6 O’clock NEWS how could someone possibly conclude a search for devices intended to kill people would NOT include a search of the groin or breast area.

Richard Read, the shoe bomber counted on the laziness of American security to not check his shoes and he got through. The under wear bomber counted on our sense prudishness and he got through. Just thank god these guys were better at concealing explosives than getting them to ignite. The enemy is always learning and one step ahead. Right now in a remote cave there is probably a girl doing Kegel exercises or a man who used to smuggle condoms of drugs in a very uncomfortable place preparing to stuff themselves with ammonium nitrate and board a plane. Why? Because that’s where we’re not checking…yet. I’m an American, and that means I’m an optimist as well as an opportunist. I say with a little bit more training the TSA agent can accomplish more while making us safer and happier. I’m not saying train everyone one of them as Medical Doctors but wouldn’t it be nice to kill two birds with one stone. How pleasant would it be to know that not only is the passenger next to you explosive free but they also don’t have any signs of prostate cancer? Bonus, if selected for screening your medical provider may have to pay for a portion of your flight.
