DJ Drama and T.I Shut Down The Tabernacle

It’s BET Hip-Hop Awards Weekend in Atlanta, so there are plenty events going on this week. Last night, I had the pleasure of attending DJ Mustard’s Brisk Bodega event at the Tabernacle. For those of you that don’t know, DJ Mustard is a producer/DJ from LA, who’s arguably the hottest producer in hip-hop right now.

He produced records like YG “No Hitta,” Tyga “Rack City,” T.I. “No Mediocre,” and every other song that’s on the radio right now. Mustard doubles as a DJ, so as a producer, he has the luxury of spinning his own songs in the club, which more or less is what he did last night.

It was my first time at a party where Mustard was DJing and he had the crowd rocking during his set.
The crowd was majority young professional, which threw me off, because everyone in there was dressed like they just got off from work, even though it was after midnight, and I’m just not used to seeing that at a hip-hop show. Whoever was in charge of invites and PR must have went after a 25 and up crowd, but they still knew the words to “Hot N!&&@” so it was still all good.

But back to the show, aside from Mustard spinning, he added to the show by bringing out some of the hottest rappers in the game. YG, Ty$, Que, OG Maco all took the stage during Mustard’s set. All and all, it was a damn good show.

But the real kicker of the night is when DJ Drama took over the turntables after Mustard’s set. Everyone there thought Mustard was the headliner, so we kinda didn’t know if it was over or what was really happening next. But 15-20 minutes into Dram’s set, T.I. jumps on stage and gave the packed crowd a good 20 minute performance, which took the energy of the tonight to a whole new level and basically stole the show.

I can’t say if T.I.P. was scheduled to perform or if he just felt the need to take the mic and one-up Mustard since it is BET Weekend in his home city and Drama had already come out of the bullpen to close it out. Either way, T.I.’s performance was a pleasant surprise and the highlight of the night.

It was a great show and a perfect example of why I love living in Atlanta. Salute to DJ Mustard, T.I., DJ Drama and Brisk Bodega for a great show.
