Entertainment Buzz – 2011 BET Awards Recap

BET DOES IT AGAIN!

This past weekend, BET’s infamous “Black Star Power” shone brightly in California, as the network presented the 11th Annual, BET AWARDS. In the spirit of celebration and stellar shine, celebs, personalities, entertainers and entrepreneurs partied from Beverly Hills and Culver City to the heart of Los Angeles at events including Jill Scott’s “One Night Only Experience” at Siren Studios to Debra Lee’s ultra-exclusive Pre-BET Awards dinner party, all in anticipation of the main event!

Sunday afternoon, in all of its 90+-degree glory, gave way to a magnificently whimsical spread of green carpet, complete with faux mushrooms and the latest models of cars from the FORD portfolio.

The flash and fervor of photographers, videographers and multi-media journalists captured the arrivals and performances of the world’s favorite entertainers including Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, Neyo, Nick Cannon, Miguel, Lloyd and the prince of the pre-show, Diggy
Simmons.

At exactly 5:00pm, Pacific Time, a smoke filled stage gave way to an opening performance from Mary J. Blige, with a surprise feature from Anita Baker. The next few hours would bring us anticipated performances from Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Alicia Keys and a well-choreographed premiere performance of “Motivation” from Kelly Rowland. The night’s top honor, The Lifetime Achievement Award, was presented to Patti LaBelle, but not until Marsha Ambrosius, Pastor Shirley Caesar, and an interestingly entertaining Cee-Lo Green, serenaded her with some of her biggest hits. Also, to up the ante of the show, the network broadcasted Beyonce in a history making concert performance at the Glastonbury Festival in England.

All in, the show went over well and Kevin Hart, the evening’s host, didn’t disappoint. Kudos to BET for producing another one for the history books, and, before I go, I must present the “Social Science BET AWARDS-

AWARDS!” Here we go:

BEST DRESSED: Kerry Washington (Classic Beauty)
BEST PRESENTERS: The Braxtons (Those girls can SING!)
MOST IMPROVED PERFORMER: Kelly Rowland (She made up for the
2009 “Like This” debacle)
BEST PERFORMANCE: Diggy Simmons (Pre-Show. It was his first live
performance ever. Great job!)
MOST UNIQUE PERFORMANCE: Cee-Lo Green performing “Somebody Loves You” (Need I Explain?) I’d love to give you the “Worst This & That” (which would probably include Chris Brown’s “GaGa-esque suit) and a recap of several “Hell No” moments (Alexander O’Neil), but I won’t. That’s not socially savvy.
(LOL).

Until next time . . .adios!
