FC Dallas Defeats Austin 3-1

There’s something special about a midweek game in the middle of the summer in Major League Soccer. This season, we’ve already seen several instances where the league’s unpredictability shines on those Wednesday nights.

FC Dallas had a particularly thrilling evening, winning 3-1 over rivals Austin FC and reclaiming Copa Tejas for the first time since 2021.

Given our quick turnaround for Saturday’s match in New England, I won’t provide a full breakdown of the entire match, but instead, I’ll highlight some key moments and thoughts from the win. Let’s dive in!
A True Rivalry Emerges

Before Wednesday’s game, I told the Austin blog Verde All Day that FC Dallas fans didn’t care as much about this rivalry as they do about the one with Houston. While I still believe this is true, I think my last comment on the subject holds. The rivalry with Austin needs more time to reach the intensity of the Houston rivalry.

However, last night, we finally witnessed the fire and passion between the two clubs that had been missing in recent years.

Interestingly, it took a player from Croatia to ignite it.
