As Jaime Munguia and John Ryder set to face off this Saturday at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona they must first fight through media day. The press conference for the potential fight of the year was held Thursday afternoon at the Footprint Center.
Both Munguia and Ryder at two different points in their professional career. Munguia is undefeated coming off a win against Sergiy Derevyanchenko while Ryder is coming off a loss to argubly the one of best boxer, Canelo Alavarez.
Although Munguia is undefeated he still has very much to prove. He has not faced a boxer of Ryder’s caliber. With a win against Ryder, Munguia can enter the conversation of a potential match against Canelo. On the other hand, Ryder is coming off a loss to Canelo and with a loss to Munguia, it can possibly be the end of his career. At age 35, there is no room for error, Ryder says.
He continues to say, “there is no space to go back to the drawing board, I need a big fight after the Canelo defeat to keep me at this level. A loss here would probably signal the end for me this is a must win for me.”
Ryder is more than prepared to square up against Munguia. He is focused on working smarter and not harder in this fight. He goes on to compliment Munguia’s volume of punches. While other’s are looking for power and precision, Munguia is relentless and fast.
This is going to be a candidate for match of the year for sure, but the question is: Will this be Ryder’s last match or will Ryder win and stop all of Munguia’s momentum?
