Rich Graham A.K.A Filthy Rich - Willingboro, NJ
Who Is Rich Graham?
What sets your music apart from everybody else?
I’m a true MC so I take pride in my lyrics and flow so that shines through first. My individuality and my swagger tend to stand out too. I’m a unique dude. I don’t carry myself or act like most of these other dudes out here rapping. I’m not trying to be the hardest or the flossiest. I’m trying to be the coolest and the most fun to listen to. These cats wanna be famous. I wanna be respected as an artist. The music always has to reach a specific audience and I’m good at reaching a wide range of listeners. I don’t just sell drugs and bust guns in every rap. Everybody does that. I switch it up a lot and try to make it relatable to everybody cuz I’m an everyday dude. I can relate to the cats in da burbs and in da hood cuz I can speak for both of them because I come from that.
How would you describe your music?
Universal, witty, funny, gutter, deep, visual, danceable. it just really depends on where the beat takes me. I literally make music for a lot of different people. From the streets to the clubs I got you!
How did you get into rapping?
I’ve always been a hip hop head but it wasn’t until I graduated high school that I started writing. I’ve always had a great vocabulary and I’ve always had a smart mouth so it came easy to me. It started as a hobby. I was just making joints for myself to listen to. I never wanted to be a rapper though. I always used to draw so I wanted to make cartoons. I used to ride the train from Jersey to Philly everyday when I was going to the Art Institute of Philadelphia and I always had my sketchbook with me. I used to draw on the train ride and every once in awhile a rhyme would pop up in my head so I would write it down. The next thing I know, I had a few pages of drawings and the rest was filled with all of these ill rhymes. No songs, just raw verses wit crazy punch-lines. In 1999 I moved to Atlanta to go to another art school, but in my free time I would freestyle a lot and enter battles. I would be slaying dudes and I didn’t even take it that seriously. It was just a hobby but I was better than most of the rappers I came across. I did that for a couple of years and then I ran into my homey Los in 2002. He introduced me to the music business. A few months before that, I started writing songs with hooks and got really good really fast. He had a young artist so he brought me in to ghostwrite for him and I’ve been in the game ever since. He brought me to Grand Hustle around the time T.I. was working on Trap Musik and that’s where I learned the grind and how to build a brand. I been on my G ever since and I’m ready to go. KLICK KLACK AAYYYOO!!
What do you represent?
I represent the hood and the suburbs. I represent the intelligent hoodlums. I represent the everyday black man. I’m not too hard or too commercial. I walk the fine line of society. I represent the hungry MCs and the fans of good music. I represent talent and passion. I represent a respect for the hip hop we grew up on and the new form of hip hop we listen to today. I am the transition. I am the future of rap music in this business…PERIOD. I keep it Filthy at all times. Get ya checkbooks out! Its GET MONEY SEASON. I’m one of the MOST TALENTED unsigned artists in the game. LET THE MUSIC SPEAK FOR ITSELF. Jersey stand up! KLICK KLACK AAAYYYOOO!!
