Messi Draws Historic Crowd in Inter Miami’s 3-2 Win Over Sporting KC

Saturday evening showcased the undeniable impact of Lionel Messi as 72,610 fans flocked to Arrowhead Stadium for Inter Miami CF’s 3-2 triumph over Sporting Kansas City – marking the fourth-largest standalone crowd in MLS history.

In Kansas City, it wasn’t Mahomes but Messi who stole the spotlight, captivating the massive audience – the largest ever for a soccer match in Missouri and the third-highest attendance recorded in MLS history. Despite the defeat, Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes lauded the incredible atmosphere and the tremendous support from the fans.

Messi’s contribution was nothing short of spectacular. His goal early in the second half displayed his dynamism, seizing a rare moment of open space to skillfully launch the ball past Sporting KC goalkeeper Tim Melia with his legendary left foot, granting Inter Miami a 2-1 advantage.

Equally impressive was Messi’s assist in the first half, reminiscent of Mahomes’ pinpoint passes to star tight end Travis Kelce. Recognizing Diego Gomez’s opportunity, Messi delivered a perfectly placed pass behind the defense, echoing Mahomes’ precision on the same field.

Despite Sporting KC’s efforts, including Erik Thommy’s early goal and his equalizer in the 58th minute, it was Gomez’s pivotal steal and precise cross to Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez in the 71st minute that secured Inter Miami’s victory.
