Hundreds of single mothers and their families enjoyed a special meal in Atlanta on Wednesday. The event aimed to spread holiday cheer and Ne-Yo even came to help! The three-time Grammy award-winning artist catered to a room full of “Miss Independent(s).”
“People always ask me about ‘Miss Independent’ and what it’s about. And that song is about the kind of women I grew up around. My mother was never waiting to be rescued… and I see a lot in this room,” Ne-Yo said.
It was a “One in a Million” experience that took place at the City of Refuge, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping single mothers and children get out of crisis.
“Being a product of a single mother myself, I know that all things are possible as long as you don’t let your circumstances defeat you,” Ne-Yo said.
For families who have been knocked down but are pushing ahead, this meal brought them closer to the holiday.
“It’s not an easy road for anyone. Some harder than others, but as long as you don’t let it defeat you. You can do anything,” he said.
