What could possibly make yet another science fiction film about an alien invasion in a small town more enticing to watch? Probably making it a hilarious comedy as well starring a few members of the “Frat Pack” comedian club, Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn, the always funny and always inappropriate Jonah Hill, and new comer stand-up comedian, Richard Ayoade. With this line-up of funny guys with their outrageous comments about everything from magical Lay-Z Boys, Chinese-inspired logos, and Asian housewife fantasies, The Watch will have any viewer bursting with shameless laughter. Knowing that the film is directed by Akiva Schaffer, also a member of the Lonely Island comedy music group, and written by both Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg is enough of a heads up to the raunchy and vulgar content that’s sure to ensue.

Set in the small town of Glenview, Ohio, a pleasant and friendly Evan (Stiller) who is thoroughly involved with his community and head manager of the local Costco experiences the aftermath of the odd and brutal murder of the store’s security guard. Hurt by this shocking reality and angered by the lack of enthusiasm given by the local police officers, played by SNL comedian Will Forte, he decides to form a neighborhood watch. After a “careful selection process” the group was joined by a young hot head that lives with his mother, Franklin (Hill), an enthusiastic father trying to bond with some neighbors, Bob (Vaughn), and an odd canidate for the job, recently divorced Jamarcus (Ayoade). Together these guys have encountered another life form that they choose to keep secret from the incompetent policemen.

While dealing with this secret and trying to find out what their plan is for visiting Earth, they try to cope with their own problems such as Evan’s intimacy issues, Bob’s uncontrollable daughter and Franklin’s shot at redemption to be an enforcer of the town. Aside from the vocal comedy there’s also a very appropriate soundtract including Eazy E’s “Boyz-in-the-Hood”. Though the film may be a bit crude at times, you’re always in for a laugh and an adventure out of this world.
