This is the year of The Dougie. Last time we were here it was the year of the Stanky Leg. And before that Souljia Boy was lucky enough to have 2 Superman & Bird Walk get co-signed by sports and break into mainstream acceptance. I mean even the Jersey Shore is Doing The Dougie.
Now the Dougie wasn’t the only dance to originate up top. A while back Puff had the whole world doing the Harlem Shake. Every so often a dance craze crosses over out the hood and makes its way to mainstream America. This years latest dance craze to make that transition is The Dougie. Made popular by Entertainer Dougie Fresh while he headed up The Get Fresh Crew. Check out Dougie Fresh co-signing the Cali Swagg version @ the 5 min mark by clicking here.
Now while most are to young to remember that. It leads me to believe that today’s youth were made familiar to the dance thanks to the cult classic Jay-Z & Dame Dash Roc-A-Fella produced Paid in Full where Rapper Camron as Alpo hit The Dougie while recapping a wild night of sex and celebrating.
This celebratory dance— is based on a series of moves described in the hit song “Teach Me How To Dougie,” by the hip-hop group Cali Swag District—generally consists of shimmying and then gliding one’s hand through one’s hair. In a long line of Ickey Shuffles and Dirty Birds, it is just the latest example of athletes using work as an excuse to boogie.
More than one million people have watched a YouTube clip of NBA rookie John Wall doing the Dougie in his warm-up suit before his recent home debut with the Washington Wizards. New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards drew a penalty flag for a post-touchdown Dougie in September. The Duck, the green-and-yellow mascot for University of Oregon’s top-ranked college football team, was captured Dougieing on a prime-time telecast in October.
