The We Sound Crazy! Podcast Presents Omarion Live from The National Museum of African American Music

Steps away from hustle and bustle in the heart of Music City, Omarion took an audience at the National Museum of African American Music through a zen experience, which included a sound bath and breathing exercises.

The Grammy-nominated singer, who rose to fame with the success of R&B boy band B2K, was in town on a book tour for his book, Unbothered: The Power of Choosing Joy. He stopped by the museum to take part in a live version of the podcast, “We Sound Crazy!” with hosts, Phil Thornton, Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony of Louis York. Tamone Bacon was unavailable for this episode.

The “King of Unbothered” as fans have dubbed him was transparent about the struggles of the industry, how he wants to help fix the issues and his “Mt. Rushmore” of music.

The industry veteran spoke of creating fair ways for creatives, such as dancers, to make a living being tastemakers of the culture talking extensively about how little the creative side of the industry is compensated. Speaking on the contracts that keep artists tied to a label for the rest of their lives because they aren’t educated on the ins and outs of the music industry.

As for his Mt. Rushmore, he stated more than four but quickly listed Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder, before debating on his fourth selection. He ended up adding Frankie Beverly, Earth, Wind & Fire as well as the Isley Brothers as a tie for that slot.

Chuck Harmony ended the speaking portion by congratulating Omarion on trying to help people. Stating that the access he was given at such a young age could’ve put him anywhere but he is doing good with his platform.

After the speaking portion and a couple of audience questions, the hosts and Omarion moved to the sound bath and mediation portion of the event. The energy was palpable throughout the breathing exercises and intensified as the sound bath started. Looking around the room, the emotions were felt as some audience members were shedding tears, which is normal according to Michelle, who was leading it.

Omarion will continue his HBCU book tour in Fairfield, AL, at Miles College, on November 1st, and you can catch We Sound Crazy! presented by Visit Music City, wherever you stream podcasts. Or just click here
