Exclusive Look at ‘Johnny Cash: Redemption of an American Icon’

Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon explores the life of Cash through the lens of his faith, trauma, and personal conflict, like never before with commentary from Alice Cooper, Marty Stuart, Sheryl Crow, Tim McGraw and Wynonna Judd, among others.

Nickajack Cave in Chattanooga, TN, is the centrality in exploring the life Cash led before entering the cave and after he left in 1967. With perfectly weaved tapes from Johnny, which were provided by The Cash family, and commentary from those that were close to him during the time including his sister, Joanne Cash Yates, the filmmakers paint a vivid picture of God’s love bringing him out of the cave and turning him towards a higher power.

After his experience in Chattanooga, The Man in Black found ways to reach people through faith, humility, and love, including the infamous prison tours. He identified with the prisoners, and they were with him. It is said that he found his ministry for the lord through the work at prisons. After re-dedicating himself, Johnny went on to work with evangelist, Billy Graham, who reached out to Cash to reach his own son, Franklin, who was a fan.

The film frames Cash’s life with components that are often forgotten or overlooked like his faith, his relationship with his first wife, Vivian Cash, and his childhood in rural Arkansas.

Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon presented by Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company, will have an exclusive run in theaters on Dec 5th, 6th, and 7th.
