A Century of Culture, Competition, and Community: Prairie View A&M Tops Grambling in 100th State Fair Classic

September 27, 2025, wasn’t just another Saturday in Dallas—it marked the 100th anniversary of the Texas State Fair Classic, and the celebration was as iconic as the game itself.

Held at the historic Cotton Bowl Stadium, thousands of fans packed the stands to witness the clash between two legendary HBCUs: Prairie View A&M University and Grambling State University. But make no mistake—this event was about far more than football.

The Classic has always been a celebration of legacy, culture, and community, and this centennial edition lived up to its reputation. From the vibrant sea of purple and gold vs. black and yellow, to the roar of alumni, students, and families, the atmosphere was nothing short of electric.

Before kickoff, the crowd was treated to high-energy performances by Fat Daddy and Ms. Shirley, setting the tone for a day of nonstop entertainment.

And when it comes to HBCU culture, the marching bands were just as much a headline as the game itself. From stand tunes to the halftime battle and the much-anticipated fifth quarter, both schools brought their best. The bands delivered more than music—they brought artistry, movement, and crowd-stirring energy that had fans on their feet throughout.

The halftime show turned into a full-scale performance showdown. Drumlines, horns, dancers, and field formations all came together to deliver the kind of magic that only HBCU marching bands can create.

On the field, Prairie View A&M emerged victorious, defeating Grambling State 28-13 to claim the title in this historic rivalry. The win marked a defining moment for the Panthers—not just a victory, but a legacy-sealing moment on the grandest stage.

Closing out the unforgettable day was a special post-game performance from TLC, bringing the centennial celebration full circle.
