Against the Odds at Shell Energy Stadium

The Houston Dynamo fell 2-0 to LAFC at Shell Energy Stadium after finishing the match with nine players.

Defender and captain Antônio Carlos was shown a red card in first-half stoppage time following a challenge involving Son Heung-Min just outside the box. In the 76th minute, midfielder Agustín Bouzat was also sent off after being ruled the last defender during another LAFC attack involving Son.

Despite the adversity, the night featured several notable moments.

Midfielder Matthew Arana made club history, becoming the youngest player to log first-team minutes for the Houston Dynamo FC when he entered in the 88th minute. The 15-year-old Homegrown signing became the 20th Dynamo Academy product to earn a first-team contract, surpassing the previous record held by Juan Castilla, who debuted at 17 in 2021.

Rookie defender Agustin Resch also made his debut after entering at the start of the second half. The Argentine, selected in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft out of Seton Hall University, signed with Houston Dynamo 2 last week before joining the first team on short-term loan.

Club legend Héctor Herrera returned to action for the first time since the 2024 season, entering in the 76th minute to a sellout crowd’s ovation. The Mexican international rejoined the Dynamo at the start of the year.

LAFC broke through in the 56th minute when Marco Delgado scored from distance. Stephen Eustaquio added a second in the 82nd minute, finding the bottom corner from outside the box.

Houston created early opportunities, including a 16th-minute header from Antônio Carlos off a dangerous ball by Jack McGlynn that forced a save from Hugo Lloris. Goalkeeper Jonathan Bond delivered a strong performance, recording four saves — including a quick double stop on Denis Bouanga and Son in the 37th minute and a point-blank denial of Son in the 53rd.

Bouzat nearly leveled the match in the 47th minute with an audacious effort from near midfield that struck the crossbar, and Lawrence Ennali forced another save late in the second half.

Down two men, but never short on fight.
