FRANKLIN, Tenn. — Alvaro Ortiz is headed to the PGA Tour.
Ortiz captured the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation on Sunday, finishing four shots clear of the field at Vanderbilt Legends Club. The victory was his second of the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour season and secured his PGA Tour membership for 2027.
The Mexico native entered the week ranked No. 20 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List but climbed to No. 5 following the win. He becomes the fifth player this season to earn TourBound status.
Ortiz saved some of his best golf for the final round, firing a 7-under 63 to finish the tournament at 26-under 254. His four-day total also tied for the fourth-lowest 72-hole score in Korn Ferry Tour history.
The victory continues a breakthrough season for Ortiz, who earned his first Korn Ferry Tour title earlier this year by defeating Ross Steelman in a playoff at the UNC Health Championship.
His latest achievement comes one year after narrowly missing a PGA Tour card. Ortiz finished No. 26 on the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour Points List before making the jump into the Tour’s top tier this season.
Before turning professional, Ortiz played collegiately at Arkansas and won the 2019 Latin America Amateur Championship. That victory helped him make his PGA Tour debut at the 2019 Masters Tournament.
Ortiz has since made 12 PGA Tour starts, with his best finish coming in a tie for 13th at the 2024 Mexico Open.
He will officially receive his PGA Tour card at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship in October.
The Korn Ferry Tour Finals continue Sept. 17 through Sept. 20 with the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in Columbus, Ohio.
