Balanced Attack Powers No. 18 Vanderbilt Past Kentucky

No. 18 Vanderbilt delivered a dominant performance Tuesday night at Memorial Gymnasium, rolling to an 80–55 wire-to-wire victory over Kentucky behind balanced scoring and stifling defense.

Tyler Nickel and Tyler Tanner led the way with 19 points apiece, while Devin McGlockton recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Commodores never trailed, improving to 18–3 overall and 5–3 in SEC play.

Chandler Bing reached double figures for the first time in his collegiate career, finishing with 11 points. Jalen Washington pulled down nine rebounds, AK Okereke added nine points and four boards, and Jayden Leverett contributed six points and three rebounds in just over six minutes of action.

Nickel’s final basket of the night marked the 1,000th point of his college career, while Tanner stuffed the stat sheet with five assists, four rebounds, and four steals. Vanderbilt held Kentucky to 55 points — the Wildcats’ lowest total in the series since 2006.

The Commodores knocked down 10 three-pointers and turned defense into offense, forcing 15 turnovers that led to 28 points. Vandy also protected the rim with nine blocked shots and limited Kentucky to just 32.2 percent shooting from the field.

Vanderbilt opened the game with seven straight points and used multiple scoring runs to seize control early. Two separate 8–0 runs helped build a 26–10 lead midway through the first half, and an 11–0 surge late sent the Dores into halftime ahead 43–23.

Otega Oweh led Kentucky with 20 points, including 14 in the second half. Denzel Aberdeen added 15 points, and Malachi Moreno grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Vanderbilt returns to action Saturday night, traveling to Ole Miss for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
