Boopie at The Buzzer Lifts SMU Past Virginia Tech

Boopie Miller delivered a moment to remember Wednesday night, drilling a half-court buzzer-beater to lift SMU to a dramatic 77-76 win over Virginia Tech.

Miller finished with a game-high 24 points—19 coming in the second half—along with six assists as the Mustangs improved to 13-4 overall and 2-2 in ACC play. After trailing for most of the second half, SMU stayed within striking distance and capitalized when it mattered most.

With 1.7 seconds remaining, Jaron Pierre Jr. secured a rebound following a missed free throw, and after timeouts from both teams, B.J. Edwards inbounded to Miller. Two dribbles later, Miller launched a shot from half court that found the bottom of the net as time expired, snapping SMU’s two-game skid.

Samet Yigitoglu added 14 points for the Mustangs, while Pierre Jr. posted 13 points and nine rebounds. Jaden Toombs chipped in a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. SMU’s advantage at the free-throw line proved crucial, as the Mustangs shot 70 percent compared to Virginia Tech’s 61 percent.

Virginia Tech was led by Jailen Bedford’s 22 points and 15 from Jaden Schutt but struggled at the line down the stretch.

SMU returns home Saturday to host Virginia at 11 a.m. CT, while Virginia Tech heads back to Blacksburg to face Notre Dame.
