Chicago Fire FC (4-2-1, 13 points) secured a victory over Atlanta United FC (1-5-1, 4 points) on Saturday night at Soldier Field, highlighted by Maren Haile-Selassie’s first goal of the season and a second consecutive shutout from goalkeeper Chris Brady.
With the win, Chicago climbed to second place in the Eastern Conference standings. Brady’s performance also marked his fourth clean sheet of the season and the 21st of his career.
Haile-Selassie and Robin Lod led the Fire’s attack once again, with Haile-Selassie breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute. The sequence began with Philip Zinckernagel driving into the right side of the penalty area before delivering a square pass to Jonathan Bamba at the spot. Under pressure, Bamba redirected the ball toward the top of the box, where Haile-Selassie met it with a first-time strike, beating goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos to give Chicago the early lead.
