St. Louis CITY SC let a two-goal lead slip away in a high-stakes rivalry match on Wednesday night, settling for a 2-2 draw against Sporting Kansas City at Energizer Park. Despite a dominant first half, CITY SC couldn’t hold off a second-half surge from their cross-state rivals.
The scoring opened early for St. Louis when Célio Pompeu buried a right-footed shot from outside the box in the 15th minute — his first goal of the 2025 season and the fifth of his MLS career. Just before the break, Tomáš Ostrák threaded a clever assist to Cedric Teuchert, who calmly slotted it home to double CITY SC’s advantage. The goal marked Teuchert’s team-leading third of the season and Ostrák’s first contribution of the year.
But Sporting KC refused to go quietly. In the 71st minute, Tim Leibold pulled one back for the visitors after receiving a pass from Dániel Sallói and finishing low into the left corner. Just six minutes later, Shapi Suleymanov delivered a perfect ball into the box, which Dejan Joveljic headed in to complete the comeback.
