Club América Battles Back Three Times, Wins Shootout Thriller Over Minnesota United

In a match packed with drama, Club América overcame three separate deficits to draw 3-3 with Minnesota United before prevailing in a penalty shootout at Shell Energy Stadium.

Minnesota struck first in the 17th minute through Tani Oluwaseyi, but an own goal by Michael Boxall leveled things — only for Bongi Hlongwane to quickly restore the Loons’ lead. América equalized again early in the second half via José Raúl Zuñiga’s header, but a red card to Igor Lichnovski shifted momentum, and Carlos Harvey made it 3-2 for Minnesota.

Down a man, América refused to fold, with Sebastián Cáceres heading home a dramatic 90th-minute equalizer. Goalkeepers Luis Malagón and Dayne St. Clair both delivered clutch saves in stoppage time, sending the game to penalties.

After seven perfect rounds, Malagón denied Nicolas Romero, and Isaías Violante buried the winning kick, sealing an improbable comeback victory for Las Águilas despite never leading in regulation.
