CMT Next Women of Country

A surprise performance by reigning Americana Duo of the Year, The War and Treaty, was a highlight of the night at CMT’s Night Out Nashville: Next Women Of Country, which took place last night at City Winery.

They spotlighted the fact that Rissi Palmer, who co-hosted the night with CMT’s Leslie Fram, was the driving force of their continued success in music in 2013. The veteran entertainer was lauded frequently throughout the night for being a true trailblazer for not only Black women in country but women in country, in general.

Brittney Spencer spoke on Palmer answering a DM in 2016 and having a coffee together. Spencer mentioned that she didn’t know their Black women in country before meeting Palmer. The sentiment was shared by Madilyn Edwards.

Palmer, for her part, who was sitting in a round with Edwards, Spencer, and Morgan Wade, stated that when she started in the mid-2000s rounds didn’t “look like this” including Wade in the statement. She underlined the fact by ensuring everyone in the sold out audience knew every woman that graced the stage was “a star.”

A clear crowd favorite was Chapel Hart, who finished fifth this year on America’s Got Talent. The trio had the audience clapping along to ‘You Can Have Him Jolene.’ The fun spin on the Dolly Parton classic brought laughter and camaraderie among the artists on stage, which included Renee Blair, Ashland Craft and Harper Grae.
