Vanderbilt Men’s Basketball remained undefeated on Tuesday night, rolling past SMU 88–69 in a packed and energetic Memorial Gymnasium. The Commodores improved to 9–0 and continued their season-long streak of scoring at least 80 points.
Sophomore guard Tyler Tanner delivered a breakout performance, dropping a season-high 26 points and controlling the offense from start to finish. He was one of four Commodores to finish in double figures, joined by Duke Miles, Tyler Nickel and Devin McGlockton. Head coach Mark Byington stuck with his now-familiar starting lineup, and the group once again set the tone early.
Vanderbilt took the lead midway through the opening minutes and never looked back. Strong shooting, efficient ball movement and timely defensive stops allowed the Commodores to maintain control even as SMU made several pushes. McGlockton and Okereke continued to show impressive chemistry in the frontcourt, while Jalen Washington provided a spark off the bench before briefly exiting with an ankle concern—he later returned without issue.
The second half brought more of the same, highlighted by a huge Washington block that fueled a fast-break slam and electrified the crowd. Tanner’s aggressive scoring and Vanderbilt’s balanced attack helped extend the lead to nearly 20 before the starters checked out to a standing ovation in the final minute.
The Commodores will look to keep their perfect season alive when they host Central Arkansas at Memorial Gym on Dec. 13 at 5:30 p.m. CST. To get your tickets click here.
