The Coors Light Search for the Coldest Tour kicked off on June 13, 2013 at the open-air
American Airlines Center AT&T Plaza in downtown Dallas, Texas. The hot Dallas night was
the perfect setting for fans of hip-hop to sip on a cold one and enjoy the festivities. The
night started off with Atlanta’s own DJ Trauma of the World Famous Superfriends getting
the crowd Turned Up for a night of great performances from hip hop legends and a riveting
competition between two local Dallas Rappers.
The show officially got under way as Gangsta Grillz DJ Drama took the stage. Drama
worked the crowd into a complete frenzy before bringing Bun B and Ice Cube on the stage.
Once on stage Ice Cube set the tone for the competition, laid the ground rules down and
let the two aspiring rappers go at it. Each rapper was required to freestyle based upon
the topic given to them by Ice Cube. The next set was for each to spit 16 bars of their own
material.
While the winner was being decided, Ice Cube and Bun B rocked the crowd with a few of
their classics. The two legends were followed by a local Dallas act, Treal Lee & Prince Rick
that kept the crowd’s energy going with their song “Throwed Off”.
The winner of the Dallas SFTC was announced after the performances. In addition to a
chance to move on to the SFTC finale, the Dallas winner will have a chance to win $20,000,
three hours of studio time to record an exclusive track co-produced by DJ Drama, which
will feature a verse by Bun B, as well as a slot on the 2013 Search for the Coldest Mixtape
hosted by DJ Drama.
The evening’s festivities were capped off with a performance by Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J.
The Dallas hip hop fans were entertained from the start with the mind blowing set by DJ
Trauma, a trip down memory lane by three hip hop icons, super producer DJ Drama, and a
competition that is sure to set the stage for a future star.
