Cougars Take Over Toyota Center: Sharp & Flemings Power Houston Past Florida State

Senior guard Emanuel Sharp poured in 27 points, freshman phenom Kingston Flemings added 21, and the No. 8/7 Houston Cougars surged past Florida State with an 82–67 win Saturday night at the Toyota Center.

Sharp and Flemings set the tone early, each scoring 13 in the first half while combining to shoot an efficient 10-of-15 from the field. Their hot start helped Houston (8–1) build a 41–33 advantage at the break.

Sharp finished the night 10-of-17 overall and knocked down six three-pointers, while Flemings went 8-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from deep.

Flemings didn’t just score — he stuffed the stat sheet with three rebounds, five assists, and a career-best eight steals. His defensive outburst stands as the second-most steals in a single game in Houston history, trailing only Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler’s 11-steal performance in 1982. Flemings also tied the eight-steal mark recorded by several former Cougars across program history.

Freshman forward Chris Cenac Jr. continued to impress, recording his second career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, Houston shot 49% from the field and hit 11 of 29 from beyond the arc while forcing 19 Florida State turnovers.

Florida State (5–4) was led by Rodney McCray V with 16 points, followed by Chauncey Wiggins with 14 and Lajae Jones with 12. The Seminoles’ bench contributed 31 points, but the team shot just 39% overall and 10-of-32 from three.

FSU narrowed the gap to 57–52 with just over 10 minutes remaining, but Houston answered with a decisive 10–0 run, capped by a Milos Uzan jumper to extend the lead to 15. From there, the Cougars maintained control, keeping the Seminoles at arm’s length the rest of the way.
