Media personality DJ Akademiks has weighed in on the reported romance between rapper Cardi B and soccer goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, declaring the pairing has “no chance” of lasting — and pointing to finances as the central reason.
Akademiks argued that Cardi B is “an expensive girl” whose lifestyle demands exceed what Okoye’s current salary can support. The commentator’s remarks suggest he views the financial gap between the two as an insurmountable obstacle for the relationship.
Okoye, a Nigerian international goalkeeper who plays in Europe’s top leagues, earns a professional athlete’s wage — but Akademiks contends that figure still falls short of what it would take to keep pace with Cardi B’s well-documented taste for luxury.
Cardi B, born Belcalis Almánzar, rose to mainstream fame with her 2017 breakout single “Bodak Yellow” and has since built a multimillion-dollar brand spanning music, fashion partnerships and endorsements. Her public persona has long been associated with high-end spending, making her financial expectations a frequent topic of public commentary.
Okoye, 25, has represented Nigeria’s Super Eagles and built a professional career at the club level in Europe. While he is regarded as one of the more promising goalkeepers from the African continent, his salary profile is not typically comparable to that of the NFL or NBA stars Cardi B has been previously linked to.
Akademiks’ comments reflect a recurring dynamic in celebrity culture, where the financial standings of high-profile individuals are routinely scrutinized alongside their personal lives. His assertion was blunt: the numbers, in his view, simply do not add up for the couple.
Neither Cardi B nor Okoye has publicly responded to Akademiks’ remarks.
