FIFA has opened an investigation into alleged racist abuse directed at popular streaming
personality IShowSpeed during Argentina’s 3-2 victory over Cape Verde at the FIFA
World Cup, according to reports.

A group of fans stands accused of making racist remarks toward the streamer, whose
real name is Darren Watkins Jr., during the match. FIFA has not yet disclosed the
identities of those involved or detailed the specific nature of the alleged abuse.

IShowSpeed, one of the most-watched livestreamers in the world, has been a prominent
presence at the World Cup, drawing significant viewership to his match-day coverage.
His attendance at high-profile matches has brought additional mainstream attention
to the tournament.

FIFA’s disciplinary framework allows the governing body to act against spectators
found guilty of discriminatory conduct at its events, including bans from future
matches and other sanctions against affiliated associations.
