A historic night unfolded at the Cotton Bowl as 22,838 fans packed the stadium for the inaugural State Fair Clásico, setting a new record for the largest-attended professional women’s sporting event in Texas history.
Although the hometown team Dallas Trinity FC fell 3-1 to Club América Femenil in this international friendly, the real winner was the sport itself. The match capped off the final weekend of the iconic State Fair of Texas, bringing together passionate fans from across the region in an electrifying celebration of women’s soccer.
A Night of Firsts and Records
22,838: New Texas state record for a pro women’s sporting event (previous was 21,284 – KC Current vs. Houston Dash in 2022).
First time Dallas Trinity FC played before a crowd of this size — previous high was 5,884.
Club América Femenil also celebrated a milestone: their most-attended match on U.S. soil, surpassing the previous mark of 14,769 in San Diego.
Even Dallas’ prior women’s sports record — set by the WNBA’s Dallas Wings (20,409 vs. Indiana Fever in June 2025) — was toppled by Saturday’s showcase.
On the Pitch
Club América took control early with goals by Sarah Luebbert (34’) and Bruna Villamala (39’), capped off by a strike from Annia Mejia in the 45th minute. Dallas Trinity FC showed resilience in the second half, breaking through in the 70th minute with a header from Sealey Strawn, assisted by Camryn Lancaster. Despite the late push, Trinity couldn’t close the gap.
Halftime Show with a Texas Twist
In true State Fair fashion, halftime featured a one-of-a-kind spectacle: legendary competitive eater Joey Chestnut devoured 114 Crab & Mozzarella Arancini, this year’s “Best Taste – Savory” winner, created by Chef Stefan T. Nedwetzky — leaving the crowd both stunned and entertained.
A Trophy and a Partnership
The event also marked the debut of the Trinity Star Trophy, presented by Walmart, now the official presenting partner of the State Fair Clásico. The trophy, awarded to Club América Femenil, symbolizes excellence, community, and the spirit of competition — values both Walmart and Dallas Trinity FC proudly stand behind.
For over 50 years, Walmart has supported the Texas community, and now, it celebrates a new chapter in the state’s sports history alongside two trailblazing women’s teams.
