Holiday Bowl Triumph: SMU Tops No. 21 Arizona

SMU delivered a statement performance on Friday night, defeating No. 21 Arizona 24–19 in the Holiday Bowl behind a standout effort from quarterback Kevin Jennings.

Jennings threw for 278 yards, highlighted by an electric 80-yard completion on a razzle dazzle play just two snaps into the game. He completed 21 of 32 passes and helped set up three rushing touchdowns two by T.J. Harden and one by Stone Eby as the Mustangs jumped out to a commanding 24–0 halftime lead.

SMU scored on four of its first five possessions, showcasing explosive offense and efficient drives. Harden and Eby powered the run game, while Sam Keltner added a field goal to cap the first-half scoring surge.

Arizona mounted a second-half comeback behind quarterback Noah Fifita, who threw three touchdown passes and finished with 265 yards. Despite three interceptions in the second half, SMU’s early dominance proved too much to overcome. A late onside kick attempt was recovered by the Mustangs, sealing the win.

The victory snapped SMU’s five-game postseason losing streak and capped a 9–4 season, matching Arizona’s final record. It also marked a moment of continuity in today’s transfer-heavy era, as both Jennings and Fifita redshirt juniors remain committed to finishing their college careers where they began.
