No. 22 Houston delivered a dominant performance Saturday night, rolling past Southern 77-6 at TDECU Stadium to improve to 2-0. Senior quarterback Conner Weigman threw three touchdown passes before exiting early in the second quarter, while freshman Keisean Henderson added two touchdown passes and a 54-yard rushing score. The Cougars exploded for 591 yards of total offense, including 388 on the ground, with six different players scoring rushing touchdowns. Houston’s defense was just as impressive, forcing three turnovers, converting them into 21 points, and holding Southern to just 121 total yards and negative-6 rushing yards.
Houston scored touchdowns on its first 11 possessions, racing to a 28-0 lead after the opening quarter and never looking back. Koby Young caught two touchdown passes, while Jonathan Dimas made all 11 extra-point attempts in a record-setting special teams performance. With their non-conference dominance established, the Cougars now turn their attention to Big 12 play, traveling to face No. 12 Texas Tech on Sept. 18 in Lubbock.
