Houston Dash End Chicago Stars FC’s Seven-Match Undefeated Streak Ends with 1-0 Loss

Chicago Stars FC’s unbeaten streak came to an end with a 1-0 road loss to the Houston Dash on a sweltering evening in Texas. An early strike from Houston’s Yazmeen Ryan proved decisive, as the Dash capitalized on a first-half turnover and held firm despite Chicago’s relentless push for an equalizer.

The home side wasted no time asserting itself, with Ryan punishing a misplaced pass from Sam Staab to give Houston the lead. Chicago struggled to find its rhythm in the first half, with misfired passes limiting offensive momentum. Their best look came in the 31st minute when midfielder Julia Grosso forced Dash goalkeeper Abby Smith into a sharp save.

The Stars regrouped after halftime, doubling their shot count from four to eight in the second half. But while the equalizer never materialized, goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher delivered a standout performance to keep her team in contention. In the 62nd minute, she denied Ryan once again with a diving fingertip save to push the ball over the bar after a deflection.

Naeher’s brilliance reached its peak in the 88th minute, when she read Ryan’s penalty attempt and parried away the shot bound for the lower left corner. Moments later, deep into stoppage time, Naeher came off her line to block Messiah Bright’s breakaway chance, then quickly recovered to smother the follow-up chaos in the box.

Despite the loss, Naeher’s commanding display in goal was a bright spot for the Stars, who will look to bounce back from their first setback of the season.
