Houston Dominates Again: Freshmen Shine as No. 1 Cougars Roll Past Oakland

The top-ranked Houston Cougars continued their unbeaten start with an emphatic 78–45 victory over Oakland on Wednesday night at Fertitta Center. Freshman guard Kingston Flemings delivered a standout performance, posting 19 points and nine assists, while senior guard Emanuel Sharp matched him with 19 points, including five made threes.

Flemings shot an impressive 8-of-12 from the field, showcasing poise beyond his years, and Sharp went 7-of-13, knocking down 5-of-9 from deep to help Houston improve to 3–0. The duo combined for 22 of Houston’s 39 first-half points, powering the Cougars to a commanding 39–17 halftime lead.

Freshman forward Chris Cenac Jr. added 11 points, contributing to a dominant night in the paint. Houston controlled the boards 46–32 and outscored Oakland 40–20 inside, overwhelming the Grizzlies on both ends of the floor.

With the win, Houston extended its remarkable streak of 20 consecutive non-conference home games holding opponents to 60 points or fewer—a run that stands 14 games longer than any other active streak in Division I men’s basketball. Only Air Force’s 24-game streak from 2003–06 has been longer in the last 35 years.

Oakland, now 0–3, was led by Isaac Garrett’s 20 points and seven rebounds, while Nassim Mashhour chipped in nine points. The Grizzlies shot just 31%, facing their third straight powerhouse opponent after losses to Michigan and Purdue.

Houston wasted no time asserting control, racing out to an 8–0 lead thanks to a Sharp three-pointer just over a minute into the game. Another deep shot from Sharp pushed the margin to 21–8, and the Cougars never let up from there.
