KJ Lewis Records First Career Double-Double as Georgetown Stays Perfect with Win Over Binghamton

The Georgetown Hoyas continued their undefeated start to the season on Wednesday night, defeating the Binghamton Bearcats 83–70 at Capital One Arena. Behind a breakout performance from junior guard KJ Lewis, who notched his first career double-double, the Hoyas improved to 3-0 while Binghamton fell to 1-3.

Lewis powered Georgetown with 20 points on 8-for-14 shooting and a game-high 10 rebounds, leading a balanced offensive attack that saw three Hoyas score in double figures. Vince Iwuchukwu added 17 points off the bench, connecting on five of nine shots and sinking seven of nine free throws, while Malik Mack came alive in the second half with 13 points, including two clutch free throws.

Head Coach Ed Cooley praised his team’s effort but emphasized the need for defensive discipline, saying, “You never want to be discouraged about it, but a win is a win. We’ve got to get better every time, and I liked how we came out of halftime.”

The Hoyas started strong in front of their home crowd, using back-to-back steals from Kayvaun Mulready to spark an early run. A late buzzer-beater from Lewis sent Georgetown into halftime with a 41–36 lead. Out of the break, the Hoyas surged ahead with a 9-0 run, led by Mack and Lewis, and never looked back—extending their lead to as many as 16 points.

Despite Binghamton’s resilience and efficient shooting from Jeremi Quigley (17 points) and Jackson Benigni (15 points), Georgetown’s balanced offense and control on the glass (38–28 advantage) proved too much. The Hoyas also shot a strong 46.3% from the field and 81% from the free-throw line, while forcing 13 turnovers and committing only four of their own.

Reflecting on his standout performance, Lewis said, “Coach Cooley is always emphasizing defense. That’s something I take pride in—it’s personal for me. When you have a coach like him, it’s hard not to compete on that end of the floor.”

Up next, Georgetown will host Clemson University on Saturday, November 15, at noon. The game will be streamed live on Peacock and broadcast locally on Team 980 and 106.7 The Fan, with legendary voice Rich Chvotkin calling the action in his 52nd season.
