León overcame an early deficit and a spectacular first-half performance from Orlando City goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau to claim a 2-1 comeback victory over Orlando City SC at Inter&Co Stadium in Leagues Cup action.
The Mexican side controlled large stretches of the match, consistently testing Orlando’s defense and creating opportunities in the final third. Jordi Cortizo was particularly influential, repeatedly finding ways to unlock the Orlando back line as León searched for an equalizer.
Crépeau, however, kept the hosts in front.
The Orlando goalkeeper produced a string of impressive saves in the opening half, including five stops that frustrated León’s attack and preserved Orlando’s advantage.
At the other end, Antoine Griezmann helped orchestrate Orlando’s attack by dropping deeper into midfield and connecting with Tyrese Spicer and Marco Pašalić. The combination eventually paid off.
Griezmann helped start the sequence that led to Orlando’s opening goal before Spicer found Pašalić. The Croatian midfielder unleashed a long-range effort that beat León’s defense and gave Orlando a 1-0 lead.
Despite falling behind, León continued to dictate the tempo.
The visitors came out aggressively after halftime, immediately putting pressure on Orlando. Daniel Arcila nearly pulled León level with a spectacular backheel attempt, but Crépeau once again came through with a crucial save.
Cortizo remained a constant threat and continued creating openings for León. His persistence was eventually rewarded when he delivered the service that allowed Juan Guevara to beat Crépeau and bring the visitors level.
With the match tied, León sensed an opportunity to complete the comeback.
After Pašalić left the match, Griezmann moved into a more advanced position, changing Orlando’s attacking structure and limiting his influence in the buildup. León took advantage, continuing to apply pressure as the visitors searched for the go-ahead goal.
That breakthrough arrived in the 72nd minute.
Arcila finally found the finish he had been searching for, unleashing a powerful strike that gave Crépeau no chance and completed León’s turnaround. After spending much of the night threatening Orlando’s goal, the forward delivered when it mattered most.
Orlando responded by throwing numbers forward in the closing stages. Daryl Dike entered as the hosts searched for an equalizer, while Crépeau even ventured forward during the frantic final minutes to add another body to Orlando’s attack.
But León held its ground.
The visitors survived Orlando’s late push to secure all three points and strengthen their position heading into their final Phase One match of the Leagues Cup.
For Orlando City, the defeat marked a frustrating night after taking an early lead and relying on Crépeau’s heroics to stay ahead for much of the contest. León’s persistence ultimately proved decisive, as the Liga MX side turned pressure into goals and completed a statement comeback on the road.
