Rapper Lil Durk secured a significant legal victory when a judge agreed to separate
racketeering charges and allegations tied to a Chicago killing from his upcoming
Los Angeles trial, according to reports from a tense court hearing.

The presiding judge stated plainly at the hearing that the goal was to ensure fairness
for both sides. “I’m here to make sure both sides have a fair trial,” the judge 
said, signaling a commitment to an orderly and impartial proceeding.

The decision to sever the charges is a notable development for the Chicago-born 
rapper, whose legal troubles have drawn widespread attention. By keeping the racketeering
counts and the Chicago-related murder allegations separate from the Los Angeles 
case, the court reduces the risk that jurors in the L.A. trial could be unduly influenced
by the weight of the additional charges.
