The Caribbean is still scrambling to restore power and normalcy in the wake of this year’s rash of powerful hurricanes, as Puerto Rico, Cuba, St. Martin, Barbuda, the Virgin Islands, Anguilla and more continue to depend on donations to fund their recovery. For Major Lazer, it’s a cause close to the heart and the trio organized a relief concert in Miami on Monday to raise funds for the affected areas.
Relief is the Mission took over the stage built up for III Points festival in the Wynwood Arts District and turned up the humidity with tons of tropical beats. Tory Lanez, Happy Colors, Ricky Remedy, Puerto Rico’s Bad Bunny, Jamaica’s Tarrus Riley, Trinidadian singer Machel Montana, Jamaican artist Konshens and others came out to support the effort.
Of course, there was a big finale from Major Lazer, who took requests from a Facebook live stream. All proceeds from the more than 8,000 tickets sold are going to Caribbean relief funds, while a couple extra thousand dollars were raised via the trio’s Facebook.
