Nashville Soccer Club’s Leagues Cup run came to an end Wednesday night as the Boys in Gold fell 2-1 to CF Monterrey at GEODIS Park, finishing outside the top four in the Phase One standings and missing out on a spot in the quarterfinals.
Nashville struck almost immediately, with Ahmed Qasem finding the back of the net just 21 seconds into the match. The goal marked the fastest in Nashville SC history, beating Dominique Badji’s previous club record by 35 seconds, and ranks as the second-fastest goal in Leagues Cup history.
Despite the early breakthrough, Nashville could not hold off Monterrey and will now turn its attention back to MLS play. The league-leading Boys in Gold enter the weekend at 12-2-4 with 40 points and are set for a demanding stretch of three matches in eight days.
Nashville returns to GEODIS Park on Saturday, Aug. 15, when it hosts second-place Inter Miami CF at 7:30 p.m. CT in a highly anticipated MLS matchup presented by Publix.
