Oakland Roots Strike Early, Hold Off Loudoun United for 2-0 Victory at Segra Field

Loudoun United FC came up short at home on Saturday night, falling 2-0 to Oakland Roots SC at Segra Field. The loss moves Loudoun’s record to 8-6-3 as they turn their attention to the 4th Round of the USL Jägermeister Cup next week against North Carolina FC.

Oakland wasted no time asserting themselves, striking twice in the first half to take full control. The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute when Neveal Hackshaw fired a powerful shot from outside the 18-yard box that slipped past the Loudoun defense and beat goalkeeper Hugo Fauroux. Just five minutes later, Daniel Gomez slipped a clever through-ball past the Red-and-Whites’ back line to Peter Wilson, who calmly slotted it home to make it 2-0.

Loudoun United responded in the second half with a flurry of chances, especially after a round of early substitutions injected energy into their attack. Ben Mines, Zach Ryan, and Florian Valot all had promising looks on goal, but Oakland goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh delivered a standout performance, making several clutch saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Despite controlling much of the second half, Loudoun couldn’t capitalize on their momentum and were ultimately held scoreless. They’ll look to bounce back with a strong showing in Cup play next week.
