Paige Bueckers Shines Despite Wings’ Second-Half Collapse Against Mystics

Rookie sensation Paige Bueckers continued her historic debut season with another milestone performance on Sunday, evening as the Dallas Wings fell 91–78 to the Washington Mystics after surrendering a double-digit halftime lead.

Bueckers became the fastest rookie in WNBA history to reach 450+ points, 100+ assists, and 100+ rebounds, accomplishing the feat in just 25 games. She also tied Caitlin Clark for fifth all-time among rookies with 25 consecutive double-digit scoring games and matched Swin Cash for third in franchise history with 19 games of 15+ points in her first year. Against Washington, she tallied 17 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block, never once scoring fewer than 10 points in a game this season.

The Wings started strong, fueled by crisp ball movement, efficient shooting, and a balanced attack that saw seven players score at least eight points. By halftime, Dallas was shooting 60% from three and led by as many as 13. But the third quarter — a season-long Achilles’ heel — proved costly again. The Mystics opened the half on a 15–4 run, shooting 78% in the period and outscoring Dallas 61–37 over the final two quarters.

Despite the loss, Bueckers’ consistency and ability to deliver record-setting performances continue to make her the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, cementing her status as one of the league’s brightest young stars.
