Pimp C is the subject of a forthcoming biography written by former [OZONE Magazine](http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.14744/title.ozone-magazine-sits-in-on-bun-bs-religion-and-hip-hop-culture-class-with-lupe-fiasco)
Publisher and editor-in-chief Julia Beverly.

Beverly interviewed 250 people for the book, which is being written under the guidance
of [Pimp C](http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.6058/title.breaking-pimp-c-found-dead-in-hotel-room)’
s mother and manager, Weslyn “Mama Wes” Monroe.

“People often remember Pimp C for his flamboyant style and controversial interviews,
but few understand just how complex and talented he was and how connected he was
to the success of many other artists,” Beverly says in a press release. “Initially,
I felt this was an important project because he hadn’t received a proper tribute.
The more I researched, I realized his story is one that needs to be told, and I’m
in the perfect position to tell it.”

Beverly interviewed Pimp C’s [UGK partner Bun B](http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/interviews/id.2216/title.bun-b-talks-upholding-ugk-s-legacy-in-his-travels-teachings-relationships)
for the book, as well as [Snoop Dogg](https://ticketmaster.evyy.net/c/4256257/264167/4272?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ticketmaster.com%2Fsnoop-dogg-tickets%2Fartist%2F763942),
Three 6 Mafia, 8Ball & MJG, the Geto Boys, Master P, David Banner, Slim Thug, Paul
Wall, Ice-T, Goodie Mob, Lil Keke, Z-Ro, Trae, Webbie and Mannie Fresh, among others
for the book.

In addition to telling the story of Pimp C, “the book explores Houston’s dynamic
music culture, the pitfalls of the entertainment industry, the economics and racial
disparity of the massive Texas Criminal Justice system, the realities of the pimp/
prostitute subculture and human trafficking, the hazards of drug abuse and much
more,” the press release says.

Pimp C died in West Hollywood in December 2007. In February 2008, [the Houston Chronicle](http://www.chron.com/entertainment/music/article/Cough-syrup-found-in-Pimp-C-s-hotel-had-no-label-1656505.php)
reported that “the combination of codeine and promethazine found in the rapper’s
system, coupled with the sleep disorder apnea, caused his death.”
