Serena Williams’ anticipated return to Wimbledon came to an abrupt end after a knee
injury forced her withdrawal from the women’s doubles draw, cutting short a long-
awaited reunion on the grass courts with her sister Venus Williams.

The two tennis legends had been set to compete together in doubles at the All England
Club, a pairing that generated significant excitement among fans hoping to see the
siblings back on one of the sport’s grandest stages. The match never materialized,
however, as Serena’s knee gave way before the partnership could take the court.

Serena, who retired from professional singles competition in 2022, had signaled
interest in select appearances since stepping away from the game. Her Wimbledon
doubles entry with Venus represented one of the more high-profile potential comebacks
since her retirement announcement.

Venus, a five-time Wimbledon singles champion, has continued to compete on tour
despite persistent injury challenges of her own. The sisters have a storied doubles
record together, having won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles as a pair.
