The Chicago Sky closed out a turbulent 2025 season with a 91-86 loss to the defending champion New York Liberty, a game that felt more like a formality than a fight. Despite a late push from Chicago’s bench, the Sky spent most of the night chasing, giving up easy looks in the first half and falling behind by as many as 17 points.
Amid swirling questions about Angel Reese’s future and the direction of the franchise, there were a few bright spots. Veteran guard Rebekah Gardner scored a season-high 15 points on perfect shooting, while Chicago’s reserves outplayed New York’s late in the game. But the Sky struggled to contain Breanna Stewart, who dominated with 24 points and six rebounds, exposing just how far Chicago is from true contention.
For a team marked by inconsistency and off-court distractions, the loss was an all-too-fitting end. The offseason ahead may prove to be even more eventful than the games themselves, as the Sky look to reset and determine whether this core can truly compete in the years to come.
