Skyhawks Use Third-Quarter Push to Beat Go-Go at Home

The College Park Skyhawks used a 33-point third quarter to take down the Capital City Go-Go 128-112 at home on Wednesday night. The win marks the first time the Skyhawks have won two games in a row, and is the first time the team is above the .500 mark (7-6) this season. Video highlights of the game can be found here.

Marcus Derrickson scored 10 in the first quarter to give the Skyhawks a 31-29 lead at the end of the first quarter. Capital City, who had Wizards assignees Admiral Schofield and Justin Robinson on the roster tonight, managed to go up by as many as seven in the second and carried a 66-59 lead into the break. The Go-Go extended the lead to 14 to open the third quarter, but Brandon Goodwin hit a three to spark a 9-0 Skyhawks run and swing the momentum back to College Park. Goodwin pulled up from half court to beat the buzzer and give the home team a 92-87 lead at the end of the quarter. Capital City pulled within two in the fourth quarter, but the Skyhawks responded with a 6-0 run to extinguish the threat.

Charlie Brown, Jr. led the Skyhawks with 24 points, while Goodwin finished with 22, including a 4-7 showing from beyond the arc. Cat Barber went for 28 points in 28 minutes to lead all bench players, and Derrickson scored 21 on the night. Nick Ward and Tahjere McCall added 16 and 10 points, respectively, to round out the scoring effort.

“We played unselfishly,” said Head Coach Noel Gillespie. “When we pushed the pace, and shared the ball, we were at our best. We can continue to build on this.”

The Skyhawks head to Greensboro to take on the Swarm this Friday, before returning home to play the Windy City Bulls on Dec. 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Gateway Center Arena @ College Park. For more information on the Skyhawks inaugural season and to register for updates, please visit CPSkyhawks.com.
