Directed by the duo THE REST, which is made up of Slowtai’s cousin and best friend, the music video for MAZZA depicts a bad trip shared between Slowthai and A$AP Rocky. The music video is a combination of Trainspotting, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure. To produce the trippy music video the production crew used practical effects to give a feeling of trippiness such as waterbeds and couches that moved. Slowthai along with producer Samo produced the beat Slowthai’s house and once shown to Rocky, Rocky decided he had to hop on the beat that night. Amazingly, the directors were able to work from home via Zoom to abide by strict COVID-19 safety regulations. Slowthai’s scenes were captured in England, and Rocky‘s in New York with very little crew. Slowthai used experiences from his past to help make the trip look insane and true to fact as possible. Art featured on the walls in the music video were created by the directors 10 year old daughter on an iPad of both Rocky and Slowthai. The set designer’s inspiration comes from 60s and 70s European hotels, a favorite of Slowthai, and the design almost looks like it came out of the film The Shining. MAZZA is the third single off Slowthai’s up and coming album TYRON, due to release 12 February, 2021.
