Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions are collaborating on the development of a feature film based on the popular 2015 horror video game, Until Dawn.
The upcoming film will be helmed by David F. Sandberg, known for his work on “Shazam!” and “Lights Out.” Gary Dauberman, acclaimed for his screenwriting contributions to franchises like “It,” “Annabelle,” and “The Nun,” will be crafting the script, building upon Blair Butler’s initial work. Sandberg and Dauberman will not only direct but also produce the film alongside Lotta Losten, Roy Lee, Asad Qizilbash, and Carter Swan.
Until Dawn, originally developed by Supermassive Games as an interactive horror video game for the PlayStation 4, narrates the tale of eight friends reuniting at the secluded Blackwood Mountain lodge of the Washingtons. This gathering takes place a year after the disappearance of twins Hannah and Beth Washington, following a cruel prank. Josh, the twins’ brother, assembles the same group to honor his sisters, but the group’s dynamics have shifted significantly due to the loss of the sisters and changes in their interpersonal relationships. As the game progresses, an unknown entity hunts the friends, and players must control the characters, making decisions that have cascading effects, determining whether the friends survive or meet their demise.
The game featured prominent Hollywood figures providing motion capture and voice acting, including Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, Ella Lentini, Larry Fessenden, Noah Fleiss, Galadriel Stineman, Nichole Sakura, Jordan Fisher, Brett Dalton, and Meaghan Martin.
