St. Louis CITY SC secured their place in the Leagues Cup Round of 16 with a 3-1 victory over the Portland Timbers at CITYPARK on Friday night. After a scoreless first half, Cedric Teuchert opened the scoring early in the second half, giving CITY SC the lead. Portland quickly responded, equalizing in the 54th minute. However, Marcel Hartel’s goal in the 83rd minute put St. Louis back in front, and Simon Becher added another in the 87th minute to clinch the win. Eduard Löwen assisted on both of the final goals. CITY SC will now travel to face Club América on Tuesday, August 13.
