Tanner’s Career Night Not Enough as Vanderbilt Falls 92–91

Despite a historic performance from Tyler Tanner, the No. 15 Vanderbilt Commodores (19–4, 6–4 SEC) came up just short in a 92–91 loss to Oklahoma (12–12, 2–9 SEC) on Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium.

Vanderbilt struggled out of the gate, falling behind early as the Sooners built a 14-point advantage by halftime. The Commodores showed serious fight in the second half, mounting a furious late comeback and cutting the deficit to a single possession in the closing moments, but were unable to complete the rally.

Tanner delivered a career night, pouring in a career-high 37 points while adding nine assists and five steals. Fifteen of his points came in the final two minutes as he nearly willed Vanderbilt back into the game. Tanner became the first Commodore to score more than 35 points in a game since Scotty Pippen Jr. dropped 36 at Cincinnati in 2021.

Tyler Nickel knocked down four three-pointers on his way to 15 points, while AK Okereke added 13 points, highlighted by a clutch four-point play late. Devin McGlockton finished with nine points and eight rebounds, and Jalen Washington chipped in four points and nine boards.

Oklahoma was led by Xzayvier Brown’s 20 points and placed five players in double figures. The Sooners shot an efficient 53 percent from the field and 43 percent from three-point range, ultimately holding off Vanderbilt’s late surge.
